Is the Fed in Charge of the Inflation Threat?
The Fed has a role to play in the sense that what we've gone through is a change in supply, negative supply shock. Things like de-globalization or the decline in labor participation are long-term supply side issues. The job of the Fed to stabilize inflation is to reduce demand and bring it in line with this reduced supply. That's whether it's done by the Fed and Congress or the Fed alone.
