The Marburg Virus in Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea
In the last few weeks, both Tanzania and Equatorial Guinea have reported outbreaks of Marburg virus. Mike Downey: It is surely somewhat of a surprise we're seeing two outbreaks at the same time but the epidemiologic data do not support that these outbreaks are related. He says up until 20 to 30 years ago, Africa was largely a rural continent; now it's an urbanized country with more than 1 billion people.Downey: We'll likely see any activity in the United States or other high-income countries where health care could be improved.
