CHAPTER

The History of Prostitution in the Middle East

Prostitution was seen as a social necessity for meeting the sexual needs of men. The most damatic known attempt to solve the problem can be found in a middle assyrian law code dating from somewhere between 14 hundred and 11 hundred b c. Prostitutes and slaves are now considered to include unmarried temple servants as well as simple harlots, aren't allowed to wear veils. It is not surprising that this takes place under he authority of perhaps the most notoriously militaristic state in the entire ancient middle east.
