The Impact of the Philippine American War on the American Empire
Filipinos are racialized in particular ways during the Philippine American War, I think largely to justify the mass killing of Filipinos. And in the United States, among white Americans and powerful white Americans, especially, Filipino resistance is increasingly racialized as well. So that helped to justify the military strategies adopted by the US military. Now, I think it begins the racial rhetoric, the racial discourse around the time takes a significant turn with the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905.
