Psychiatry - Is There a DSM or an ICD?
I think most of us who have worked on a psychiatry unit or seen patients in the ED, you know, it's relatively obvious to us that we are not simply stigmatizing people's life choices and values. And so I think that really clinical experience is what will help people to dispel some of those ideas in their own minds. So sometimes people come to us because they are feeling things that aren't in the DSM. We have to bring our diagnostic tools to the patient experience rather than try to fit the experience into the boxes that are available to us.
