In 973, now that edgar is a mature ruler with a fairly powerful state, he and the archbishop of canterbury stage a massive coronation ceremony at bath. At this coronation, he's proclaimed as king of england and emperor of britain. But only two years later, edgar died in the year 975, aged only 32. He was succeeded then by the 12 year old son, edward, who, not surprisingly, is pretty incompetent. There's a disorderly reign, and it ends with his assassination only three years later, in nine 78.
