Grace tomiston, also known as mary grace quackenboss, was an attorney and investigator who did a whole lot of work to exonerate people. Some of her work was part of a moral panic over what people were calling white slavery in the early twentieth century. She made some unfounded allegations during all this, in the latter part of her career, and it really tarnished her reputation. There are mentions and discussions of various sex crimes in this episode because that was one of the things that she investigating.
