You don't have to do anything crazy investing wise, just do some solid investments. Just those simple moves of being frugal and doing some counterintuitive things with your housing can make a huge difference over 5, 10, 20 years. When you pay rent, that is the most you're going to pay for that property every month. And in a three or four year timeframe, even in an area that traditionally goes up very quickly, sometimes it'll stay flat.
