As a great English novelist you're expecting of course Cheshireton. Lewis read his biography of Robert Browning the poet and Lewis said it was full of great insights but I couldn't tell if he'd actually read any Robert Browning It was just his witty impressions right yeah. You get the sense in some works that he really has read them extensively and other works not so much.
