Beethoven wrote pieces of music that are unplayably fast between 1850 and 1820. But his metronome was weighted slightly wrong, so he played it at a tempo that doesn't sound fast. He actually owned the first ever metronome I think - or he owned a metronome made by the inventor of the metronome.
