The Oge Fair Reopens Colonial Policy
Oge's threat to arm the slaves planted a dangerous seed in everyone's head. And soon enough, they would all be enlisting the slaves to fight their battles. In may 17 91, the national assembly began its longest, deepest and most contentious debate on the issue. The friends of the black had been on the defensive for a year now, and were able to finally retake the high ground. They denounced the barbarous murder of a wealthy, prominent and well respected citizen who had done nothing but fight for his rights. For the crime of fighting for this liberty, he was tortured to death.
