The former Soviet leader was involved in raiding the houses of starving peasants to remove what little food they had and continued to seize various stores of food for the state. He did this because he subscribed to this political morality that involved, first of all, a conviction of the moral necessity and justice of communist goals. And also this idea that it was a failure of morality to give way to pity or give way to doubt or irresolution.
