John Preskill: From the Early Universe to the Future of Quantum Computing

The Origins Podcast with Lawrence Krauss

CHAPTER

The Two Major Strengths of Quantum Computing

The power of quantum computing was always the fact that quantum objects are doing many things at the same time. In particular, they have the capacity to become very highly entangled. They have very complex correlations among the particles which can't be easily captured in terms of classical data. We don't know how to efficiently simulate what a quantum computer does with a ordinary classical computer. The root of that difficulty is that these quantum systems speak a different language than we know and understand or that our classical computers understand.
