The nuclear industry is fond of pointing out that the low enriched uranium fuel used in power generation could never be used to make an atomic bomb. Almost every single country that has nuclear energy worked on a nuclear proliferation program at the same time as they built their plants, says Peter Bergen. The feeling so safe that you don't have to protect yourself with either nuclear energy or nuclear bombs leads to Europe where America's protection of nuclear bombs over Europe led to an environment so safe it forgot any good sense of self-preservation.
