Methan is more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide. Methan also dissipates a lot faster than carbon dioxide does. It only lasts in the atmosphere about ten years, which is much shorter than c o two. So that means that if we reduce mathan omissions,. Now we can see an effect in our lifetimes - and it could happen within 20 years. But where are they? Where the leak? Well, that's the big problem. We're still trying to figure out.
Methane traps more than 80 times as much heat as CO2 over the short term. So we could make a real difference on climate change this decade if we could stop leaking so much methane into the atmosphere. But before researchers and regulators can figure out how to do that, the methane hunters need to find the leaks.
