The Importance of Medication in Patients With Alcohol Associated Liver Disease

There are lots of medications that we can use in patients with alcohol associated liver disease and alcohol use disorder. treksone is a daily medication it's an opioid receptor antagonist and is thought to diminish the rewarding effects of alcohol when patients take it. baclofin which is actually the best studied in liver disease and particularly in cirrhosis is generally started at 10 milligrams three times a day. disulfuram has a really interesting mechanism by inhibiting acetyl aldehyde dehydrogenase but studies have shown adherence to this medication is quite low. gabapentin is a medication that can sometimes be helpful for patients it can also be helpful in like withdrawal and early cessation
