One of the lessons from scouting is that in a lot of contexts, maybe people don't take enough risk in hiring or looking for talent. I found high school students, in some contexts, to be quite good scoutst. The person only knows their friends. They're willing to take some chance, partly because they may be oblivious. And it's truly credible as a signal.
