The Effects of Breath Holding on the Brain
The brain is maybe... I believe something like 2%, maybe 5% in the most. But it's not a proportionally of our body mass, entire body mass. It uses an average 20% of all oxygen that we breathe. And so ultimately when the brain senses that oxygen is going to be lacking, it has to direct the amount of oxygen that's still available to specific places that are most important. When you hold your breath, it's not your thinking that's going to be the most important at some point.
