The Place Cell and the Grid Cell

The place cell is found almost exclusively in the hipocampus, which is a brain region involved in learning and memory. A smaller sub population of cells will fire together to say, i am here. I am in this place. And then when you move to a different location, a completely different subpopulation of cells fires together - that tells someone where they are. That's not really the under pinnings of the human navigation system. We'd need to know where we werei what direction we were pointing in, and how far or close we were to other parts Of their environment.
