Aquinas's Understanding of Human Knowledge
In a political work on kingship, Aquinas describes the appropriatens of human knowledge being dependent on our condition as physical and social beings. In theoretical matters, the highest or first principles are at once most certain when grasped but also the most difficult to reach. Even a purely spiritual creature, unencumbered by any y, that is, an angel, must face limits to knowledge. And finally, because our knowledge is because of our limited, embo i social nature, some truths may reach our intellectual awareness through means other than rational argument,. including, but not limited to instinct, imagination and socialization.
