The Evidence for the Magnetic Field

Every atom has like these levels of energy it can be at. If you add a magnetic field, it changes those energy levels a little bit. And we can see that here on Earth. Do we see it brighter or dimmer or only in certain frequencies? What's the evidence for the magnetic field? We see a split. So then the mystery about this Shabilski star is that it's both hot and highly magnetic.
