The final barrier against the other province's hardline plans to make street protests all but impossible fell in the House of Lords. A fatal motion to block the bill was ignored by Labor, so it changes to the Public Order Act on our law. Under these new laws, police can stop a protest if they think it will cause serious public disorder, serious damage to property, or prolonged disruption to life in the community. How did we get here?
