Nuclear Fusion and Fission
Nuclear fusion is when two nuclei fuse together to form a heavier nucleus. That would be taking two elements and fusing them together to make a different element. This isn't nuclear fusion, it's just bringing the two masses together so that the neutrons that are being cast off can cause a chain reaction. The purpose of firing these elements towards each other was not to fuse them together but to get them close together so they could basically fission them all.
