The study looked at the degree of compensation and how that varies for people who are in negative neutral or positive energy balance. The constrained model did a better job explaining the data when compared to the additive model, which assumes minimal compensation. For someone who's in negative energy balance, we can expect that it will increase the degree to which they compensate for an increase in exercise energy expenditure.
