How to Run Brain-Like Algorithms on Computer Chips

If people figure out how to run brain-like algorithms on computer chips, then what source code should they write? This turns out to be an unsolved problem in a surprisingly tricky one. There's long lists of funny ones where the AI algorithms did really ingenious things that the programmer didn't intend and didn't think of or certainly didn't want. The big question is, if we're inviting this new intelligent species onto the planet, how do we make sure it's a species that we actually want to share the planet with them?
