The founders did not intend for america to be a representative democracy. They thought that was like the stuff of philistines, and dictate what the public does. But i also think it's clear to me that when there's people who are pushing for America to become less representative, to roll back some of that progress,. That you have to take that serious lease you can continue the expansion that's taken place.

Sam Koppelman is a Democratic strategist who served as director of surrogate speechwriting on the Biden campaign. He is the author, with former Attorney General Eric Holder, of Our Unfinished March: The Violent Past and Imperiled Future of the Vote—a History, a Crisis, a Plan.
