Almost 60% of African countries have some kind of data protection law in place. But many believe that a data protection law is not necessary when you simply don't have the technical infrastructure to go online, he says. There's also a general trepidation for sometimes making too much of a large ask for adoption of data protection for companies that are particularly struggling. He argues there has been a lag in the kind of the necessity of checks and balances.
