The Risk of a Debt Crisis in Emerging Markets
In COVID, more than a quarter of emerging markets have either defaulted or have bonds that are trading in distress territory. Over 60% of low income countries are at or near debt distress. And we put now the risk of this happening over the next three quarters at 40%. That could cause a tremendous problem for countries with large external financing needs.
