People are simply busy, and an email from a stranger is going to be a lower item on the priority list. So always make sure to follow up at every stage of the search. A lot of people think that mentors are folks who just come in and start guiding you every step of the way. You do 90 % of the work. The other person helps with that extra 10%. When you show that you're investing in yourself in a capacity that's beyond what other people are doing, more s are going to be willing to help you.
