The Narrative of Jean Brody

There is a point about a third of the way through the book where the narrative does something very strange. And it goes on to describe Jean Brody as typical of a bereaved, educated woman who now throws herself into self-betterment. It's because we don't know, it's very helpful for us reading it now at a remove of 70 years,. I guess, for almost 70 years, that this is in there because it gives us the context for who these women were.
