The Difficulty With James
William James is quite higher with better. He's really up for his higher introduces, which has a kind of sense that you step up the ladder and he mentions idea of a downward slider as well. So he does have a higher and lower thing, but the difficulty with James is not really in his mystical ladder though. I don't think it's a great metaphor and I kind of flip it on its side and turn it into a normal distribution curve, which seems a lot more appropriate for the 21st century. But by dividing mysticism, the totality of mysticism into two halves, then he creates all sorts of conceptual problems, which require a degree of critique.
