The Story of Marlon Brando
Marlon Brando refused an Oscar in 1973. He wanted to send the message that there were more important things happening on the planet than Hollywood. The actor's longtime secretary, Alice Marchock, wrote a four-page speech about his refusal. Producer Howard Koch was begrudgingly agreed that Sashin could accept Brando's trophy should he win but told them there was no way he'd let her read it on the air.
