The Benefits of Cash Transfers

Cash tends to be cheaper than dispersing in kind or sort of cash plus interventions. In Yemen, collecting cash was costlier than collecting food but this was just due to the way that the program was implemented. Learning more about beneficiary preferences can help weigh this tension between providing beneficiaries with autonomy and having impacts on specific outcomes. Nathan: I think we can see clearly that cash transfers remain an attractive policy option they tend to have positive effects at least in the short term. They're not the most impactful option for every outcome though.
