The History of the Catholic Church in the Papal States
In the 19th century, in the Papal States, a sort of classic case of this that I know you're familiar with. There was a big dust up because First Things magazine published a review of a translation of a memoir of an older Dominican priest. The book is very well written and Steven Spielberg and Harvey Weinstein decided that they were going to make a movie about it. So what ended up happening was Matara wrote his memoirs and was kind of nice to Pius IX.
