Katherine nixey is the economist's briton correspondent, bloomsbury. They've got record sales this year and a 220 % rise in profits. Their head of bloomsbury put this down to the absolute phenomenon, as he called it, of book tok. Book talk just says things like, i really like this book. I love this book. It made me cry. And one of the reasons perhaps that it's working is it's largely done by young women for an audience who are largely, one assumes, young women. These are the people who buy books. So it's reaching places that literary reviews have failed to reach hithertoso.
