The Aristotelian Idea of Justice
Michael Sander: We can't make sense of our debates about justice without drawing to some degree on this third Aristotelian tradition. He says we've moved from utilitarianism which emphasizes maximising happiness through the Kantian approach that makes some things absolutely right or wrong and people have rights, these can't be violated. If it became a persisting problem that the great stratobarious violins were being bought up by private collectors I might favor some policies that would subsidize the purchase of Stratobaruses for great violinists who would perform with them.
