00:00

Introduction

This episode is about spinoza. He was a jewish phil sopher who lived in amsterdam in the 16 hundreds, just in the wake of descarte and hobbs. When he anonymously published the theologico political treatise, it was immediately banned all across europe. But there's something so appealing about that kind of social ontology. And maybe to day we'll get into a little bit about why he's both appealing to thinkers of emancipe emancipation, but also presents some deep problems for critical social theory.
