Dave Burke is the author of a new book on military incompetence. He says there are no differences between good and bad commanders in terms of their mental make-up. Humble leaders usually do better no matter what situation they're in, he writes. The activities of professional fighters are presumably as necessary to society as those the police prostitutes, sewage disposers and psychologists - but should be taken as a compliment.
