Even historians of luther's right on aragtr the people who restored rewriter recorded the history of what luther did, they are not even sure if luther was telling them the truth. Back in the fifties, when luther scholars did actual luther scholarship and wrote great biographies, one of the things that they do is they base most of their biographical notes on jonas wit or dietrich almsdor ugenhagen. And you have to remember, in those days, these guys were able to take pages of notes from memory that then luther read and went, that's exactly what i said.
