The History of the Pet Cemetery

New York City had banned burials as part of a public health movement. Emily Berthitt owned an apple orchard north of the city in Hart'sdale, New York. She wanted to turn it into a pet cemetery after reading about people who didn't know what to do with their dead pets. Today, Hartstale is the oldest pet cemetery in the US.
