The Difference Between Requests and Demands in Human Relationships

We want to make clear, assertive requests, but we want other people to know that these are requests and not demands. You can never tell whether something is a request or a demand by how nicely it is asked or how clear it is. What determines the difference between a request and a demand is how we treat people when they don't respond to our request.
