Oliver Sodden's early plays seem to capture something of the frenetic kind of post war time. The dialogue is particularly something like private lives, where people are sort of tossing epigrams at each other partly to deflect the energy or emotion. And throughout those early plays you get the feeling of people dancing on the edge of an abyss which is exactly what you get in say vile bodies by Evelyn war and the green hat by Michael. So he was very much of his period in that sense, and in that way he was modernist.
