Naveen: With any acute abdominal pain complaint I like to use the framework from an anatomical standpoint. So we usually think about pain from the billiary system from a gallstone and then it depends on where that gallstone is in terms of what kind of diagnosis we're dealing with, he says. Naveen: The first type of gallstone that can cause pain is a gallstone in a gallbladder where it is transiently blocking the cystic duct or the passage from the gallbladder into the common bile duct but it's transient. Those patients have what we describe as billiary colic or this really intense right upper quadrant pain with usually with nausea, vomiting
