The idea that somehow death is felt where life should be is so characteristic of the literature of this period. And perhaps most notably in the tragedy, let's say Renaissance tragedy, including the writing of Shakespeare. It isn't just an individual question of the individual facing the problem of death. It's a social and political question. It's about a whole world destroying itself.
