Morgan Stanley was the first U.S. bank to open a joint venture in China. It's not clear if JP Morgan had some kind of outlet there, but more for banking and taking deposits or doing traditional banking business. But from a trading point of view, securities business, thanks to Ed Lim, said China really needs capital markets and needs investment banking business.
