The History of Cuba and the United States

In 17 62, the british successfully laid siege to havana and captured the island. During their ten month rule, great britain opened the ports of cuba to more free trade with different caribbean islands as well as with british north america. This initial trade paved the way for closer ties between cuba and what would soon become the united states. In the end, cubans opted to remain part of spain until claiming and achieving their own i pendence in 18 98.
