At the time, many people didn't thinkt the bom would work. It had to be tested on american soil before it could be used in japan. Many of the generals did not want to use e nuclear bowl. The word test is a euphemism that you find everywhere. You find it in nuclear physics books. And then that opened the door to teaching of nuclear physics later in civilian universities. So you can get a degree in nuclear physics.
