The Evolution of Satellites
There are 29 GPS satellites in active service at the time of recording. All they do is broadcast a clock signal, like a timestamp. They keep track of time by counting the number of weeks and the number of seconds. The reason you can tell where you are by just things yelling the time at you is we know very accurately how long that signal takes to get to you.
