When we eat them now or their body parts, they're changed sufficiently through processing that we don't immediately recognize the creature anymore. You learn really quickly when you start butchering animals. The discomfort of being around blood and guts and feces and urine makes you squeamish. But you keep peeling away. Eventually, all of a sudden, there's this moment where it starts to look like meat.
