How to Build a 50 Megawatt Wind Turbine

Researchers in the US are working on proposals for a giant 50 megawatt turbine. It would be 550 meters tall, higher than the World Trade Center one in New York. One of the biggest risks is that of a tower strike - where longer blades can bend in high winds. That's the wind turbine equivalent of an aeroplane crash. The design has been inspired by that of palm trees and their fronds fold up in strong winds.
